[ But, of course, he's happy to call Diana whatever she wishes. He knows something of monikers and superhero names, having been a little conflicted with his own name for the earlier part of the war shortly after donning the star-spangled suit.
He smiles to echo hers, gently taking one of her hands in his and resting the other at her waist just as he'd been taught. ]
Honestly, between you and me, I feel a little more comfortable in the war uniform. [ His voice is light but beneath that there's a deeper truth to it. ] Even then, I see the value in dressing up a little from time to time. Makes the dancing more of a show.
( it's not so far from how Diana has been taught, either. well; as far as her Steve has shown her, anyway. for not the first time she compares the two — she wonders if they have met, because she suspects they'd have much in common.
unbelievably, considering what her uniform consists of, Diana nods in agreement. ) I have no protest to a party, but I feel more myself in my armor. Though this is admittedly more comfortable. ( wearing a metal bustier into battle will do that to a girl... proof she's a wonder woman, tbh
as for the dancing, she scoffs lightly, the light in her eyes giving the fact she's about to tease him away. ) Human dancing needs all the dressing it can get. You all dance very sedately, I find.
If he had it his way, they'd all be standing still, rooted to their spots, with maybe a little bit of swaying every now and then. Kind of like a very majestic tree.
No, he kids, he kids. Honestly, he wishes he could move to the faster songs with as much grace as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, but he's taking it slow - quite literally - until he gains his dancing feet. ] What's dancing like back home for you?
( yes, sedately. this is far more generous than her usual appraisal that modern dancing was little more than swaying close together. she's growing fonder of this style, she will confess it, yet it was nothing like the thunder and dynamic movement she remembers from home. )
We danced for emotion. To represent something important, like the stories of the gods or a celebration of life or love. Much drums, much movement, we were free and wild and thoughtless.
( when she puts it like that, it makes sense that slow dancing seems quiet in comparison. )
I think that's a little more akin to what they call 'modern dance'. It's nothing like what I grew up with. [ What he could never partake in. ] Each dance had a series of steps and a pattern.
[ It could be, admittedly, a little rigid. But dances like the waltz and the lindyhop could be free-flowing and beautiful too. ]
I would not mind learning that sort of dance, with steps and a pattern. ( it isn't exactly how she learned to dance, though, she's starting to accept that does not make it bad or lesser. just different. ) It was suggested I keep an open mind, and I am sure there is more to human dancing than I have seen. You should show me some of your steps sometime.
( Diana genuinely believes you have some moves hidden in you, Steve...... don't let her down, show her how to lindy bop! )
I have seen you move in a fight. I think your feet are more fleet than you give them credit for. ( geez. try saying that ten times fast... Diana clearly believes in Steve's dance moves, though she is the sort that believes much of just about everyone. especially those she admires. you can do it, Steve!! next contestant on So You Think You Can Dance? after someone makes up a Natha version, that is. )
Your feet do not disappoint you now, either. Mine have survived quite well, don't you think? ( they've managed a whole dance without any stubbed toes or smarting feet. )
It's the practice. I worked very hard to make sure I stopped stepping on innocent people's feet.
[ Steve's mouth curves into a teasing smile.
But really, he's relieved and just a little proud of the fact that he's danced throughout the night without breaking anyone's poor feet in the process. ]
And for someone who isn't a fan of the way we dance, you do it pretty well.
( when she's used to flips and leaps and spins and whatever else, this is literally a cake-walk, steve... Diana has the grace not to say as much. )
I have had good teachers, I think.
( dance partners that are patient with her lack of knowledge, willing to teach what she doesn't quite know on instinct. dancing has proven to work out for both of them. )

Steve laughs, head shaking, and honestly looking a little more boyish than his usual composure. ]
Oh, I don't know that I've got steps, exactly. I think you may be giving me a little more credit than I deserve.
[ But it's nice to know that she believes in him, even when he clearly doesn't believe in himself - at least where dancing is concerned.
He should probably get Peggy to teach him a few more moves so he doesn't end up making a fool of himself. ]
