Not sure what the collective 'we' are expecting, exactly. But some answers and clarity would be a good start.

It's an uncomfortable thing, going in blind and having no other choice but to trust your rescuers wholeheartedly. Steve is willing to give them the benefit of the doubt but too many years in war against someone or something has taught him to exercise caution.
