THE CHARACTER

Character Name: Steve Rogers
Series: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Canon Point: Post-Civil War
Character Age: 95-ish
Background: wiki link

Personality:
For much of Steve's young life, he never felt like he and his physical body were ever the right fit. At his core, he is much bigger than his body, filled with fire in his heart to stand up for people just like him, to be something bigger and better and braver than so many people who don't have a champion. Being small and scrawny didn't hinder him; if anything, it instilled in him a kind of 'nothing to lose' attitude. With the exception of Bucky Barnes, he was alone for the most part; his mother had died when he was eighteen and his father had died in the first World War. He was driven to what he had to - with or without the accompanying physical strength - and it got him into a fair amount of trouble that Bucky had to get him out of. This is where Steve got his start.

Steve is courageous, noble, and compassionate. His attempts to help out in the War efforts were not to gain fame but because he genuinely believed that everyone had an obligation to do their part to defend the weak and innocent, and he was as able-bodied as any Joe Schmuck to help. The doctors, of course, thought otherwise, but Steve never let that stop him. He repeatedly attempted to enlist in the army, and was repeatedly rejected each time for being too short, too small, too sickly, and too weak to be of any use as a soldier. It helped him understand what it was like to be seen as weak; and it made him compassionate for others because of the way he'd been treated before the serum. He could relate to those who wanted to prove themselves, such as the Maximoff twins, and would always attempt to understand the people around him even if they were on the opposition.

He is fearless in the face of danger because his sense of justice and doing the right thing overrides any personal feelings of doubt and fear he might have. He single-handedly rushes into dangerous territory to save the lives of soldiers he believes are still alive; he single-handedly flies a plane into the Arctic knowing that he won't survive it, but he does it anyway in order to save the lives of millions. He helps to defend an entire nation of civilians in Sokovia against Ultron for as long as he can until they have all been evacuated. He doesn't let his fears or anything else, really, stop him from doing what's right.

What makes Captain America the much-respected, revered hero of the Avengers, aside from his unceasing bravery, is his kindness and his humanity. He has a very strong moral compass and is incredibly dedicated to his cause for justice, but deep down his goals are very simple - he wants to help no matter the circumstances because it's the right thing to do and people both want and need a champion. He will put himself before everyone else if it means saving even one life. He has a very strong sense of duty as a soldier, and his experiences before the super-serum help him gain strength of spirit when he feels a hopeless. He refuses to tolerate the abuse of power, especially when that power puts others who can't defend themselves at risk. He is willing to make some difficult choices even at the cost of himself if it means helping people.

Steve is also unceasingly loyal to his friends and comrades. During WWII and in his time as an Avenger, he was a face his allies and friends could rely on. Even if it meant defying direct orders from his superiors and putting himself in harm's way in lieu of suicide missions, he charged into HYDRA territory with little more than his stage-costume and a wooden shield in order to save the lives of his best friend and the Howling Commandos. They knew they could count on him, and in turn, gave him their never-ending loyalty. Even when Steve met Bucky Barnes again, this time as the Winter Soldier, he had his duty but it never stopped him from attempting to reason with his best friend and help him remember who he used to be. It motivated him to look for Bucky after the events of The Winter Soldier in an attempt to protect him. Steve didn't give up on Bucky - as Bucky had once said to him, Steve was 'with [him] till the end of the line.' There are two people in Steve's life, from his past, who affect him this way. Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter can and will always have the most impact on his emotional well-being. He can be the stoic soldier, one that is driven by his duty and sense of justice - in essence, the very icon of a perfect soldier - but Bucky and Peggy can stir up the much more human side of Steve, making him think more with his heart.

Combined with his strength, his sense of justice and his bravery, Steve is charismatic and has a way of commanding the respect and admiration from his fellow comrades and Avengers. He is a natural-born leader and he only needed the physical attributes of his body to catch up with his heart in order to really take advantage of his innate skillset. Even during the tough times when Tony and Steve are at odds with each other (see: Civil War) it's pretty clear that the situation isn't one either of them want to be in. Tony considers Steve a friend, albeit one he sometimes wants to 'punch in [his] perfect teeth' but that alone states that there's a reluctance in being at odds with each other.

But while Steve has many good traits, he is far from perfect. He can be incredibly stubborn. Yes, he never gives up in a fight, but he also has very little sense of self-preservation in such a case. Even before he was able to withstand physical damage to his body, he was fighting like super-serumed Cap. If not for Bucky he probably faced a few too many close-calls. He'd be bullied and beaten bloody all because he didn't like the way someone said something, or he thought that someone was treating someone wrong, and he'd charge into battle like he was trying to win a war.

Steve believes so strongly in his morals and his sense of justice that, as previously mentioned, it put him at odds with his fellow Avenger, Tony Stark. He believed he couldn't be Captain America if he had to follow all the jurisdictional rules and policies of a larger, governing body who had little idea what was going on in the actual battlefield. Steve believed that he wouldn't be able to do his job without the freedoms he currently had. He isn't a huge fan of agencies such as HYDRA and SHIELD; in fact, he's wary of them. Politics and policies become complicated, and they become distanced from the real goal of what they try to achieve. In the confusion and the hierarchy, Steve believes it is too easy to forget what you were meant to do and that it becomes about the power - and the abuse of power.

And because Steve was a soldier all of his adult life, fighting is actually really all he knows. When he awoke from his cryogenic sleep, he was pulled into an unfamiliar world set several years into a future he never could have imagined. He was an outsider and would never truly fit in. He was, after all, a 95 year old man with the scruples and beliefs of a man in the 1940s; without Bucky and Peggy, he was completely alone. There was a strong possibility, as seen in the vision Scarlet Witch had brought upon him, that Steve couldn't do anything else but fight. If the war really did end, he might not be needed anymore, and it would leave him to realize just how alone he was without the last ties he had to his former life. Ultron accused him of craving conflict and battle in order to avoid pursuing a civilian life, because it would force him to confront everything - including and especially time - he'd lost when he crashed into the Arctic ice. And maybe, a part of Steve wondered if that was true.

He is merciful but he isn't naive either. Steve is willing to kill if he must, and he has killed in the past. He is not beyond using some form of scare tactics in order to get information out of someone, such as when they take HYDRA's mole, Jasper Sitwell, and casually throw him off of the roof. Steve is a good man but he isn't an angel. If Steve didn't help to stop HYDRA from infiltrating SHIELD, many good people, including superheroes, would be at risk of elimination. Millions of innocent people would die.

Powers/Abilities:
✪ as a supersoldier, he has an enhanced physiology, which includes: strength, intelligence, speed, dexterity, durability, agility, stamina, flexibility
✪ accelerated healing and metabolism
✪ enhancement of anatomical abilities so that he is recreated into a man in his prime, with peak health, physical form, and development
✪ he is also trained in a number of different martial arts focusing particularly on close physical combat, which allows him to utilize his body to his advantage
✪ shield mastery - his weapon of choice is the symbolic Captain America shield, and he has training in using his shield to the best of both it and his ability - this includes blocking, offensive moves, throwing it with perfect aim, and retrieving it through boomerang-techniques
✪ advanced level marksmanship - he can throw things with very precise aim, he can shoot, and throw knives at targets
✪ tactics and strategy - with his enhanced intelligence, it helps him to formulate battle strategies and think on his feet, as well as improvise in situations that call for it
✪ multilingualism - he can speak both English and French, and probably a few words of German here and there
✪ flight - as in, he has the basic skillset to fly a plane

Power Nerfs (if applicable):
Considering Steve has the ability to heal quickly, this can totally be nulled/nerfed as the mods see fit!

Any of Steve's enhanced abilities can be lessened or dampened if required but because the super-serum is part of his DNA, it's kind of who he is, and I'd rather him not be completely without his abilities. I leave all of this, of course, to the mods discretion if this is at all problematic. He certainly does not have the ability to destroy cities and blow universes up, and he can be (and has been) injured on several occasions so he might be tough to kill, but he can be killed.

Inventory:
✪ his slightly old-school Captain America uniform
a compass with a certain someone's picture on the inside
✪ a set of car keys
✪ he would also make a polite request for his Vibranium shield, although knowing how soft a spot it had been with his friend Tony, he would only request it 'if it isn't too much trouble'. The shield itself is made of practically indestructible metal known as 'vibranium steel'; it's the same stuff Wolverine's claws are made of. It can therefore withstand a hell of a lot of damage without barely any sign of visible scratches or scuff-marks. It can absorb kinetic energy and transfers very little energy from impact, which makes it great to keep moving in battle without the recoil. It also means Steve can utilize the shield as a means to soften blows, and soften landings when using it to break his fall from tall heights.

Incentives:
✪ the guaranteed protection of Bucky Barnes, wherever he may be - and if he's not on the ship, he requests that the Orbiters find him and bring him on board
✪ the protection of his fellow (sleeping) Avengers
✪ the guarantee that where they're going, he'll be allowed to continue helping people without rules and regulations and accords
